Johnstown Splits a Pair Against Alton

The Johnstown Mill Rats split their two-game series with the River Dragons in Alton on Thursday.

Game 1 went to the Mill Rats 6-4 and was a continuation of the game originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 18.  The Rats jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the game was delayed for weather in the middle of the 2nd inning on Wednesday.  When the game resumed today, Johnstown added single runs in the 4th, 5th, and 9th innings while Alton was only able to collect 4 runs over the final 7 ½ frames.  The win extended the Mill Rats’ winning streak to 6 games.

Reliever Fabian Morales picked up his second win of the season in relief of starter Isaias Espiritusanto.  Morales upped his record to 2-0 allowing 1 run on 2 hits over 5 innings.

Sergio DeCello knocked his 4th homerun of the season and was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI in the win.  Brennon Seigler was 2 for 5 in the contest with a homerun (1) and 2 RBI.

Hunter Niksch (0-1) absorbed the loss for Alton.

In the nightcap, Alton scored 6 runs in the 1st inning on their way to a 10-0, 5-inning run rule shutout win over Johnstown.  The game was originally slated for 7-innings.

The Rats committed 4 errors allowing Alton to score 10 runs on 12 hits.  Mill Rats’ starter Gabe Bryant fell to 2-2 on the season, giving up 8 runs on 9 hits over 2 innings.

Jayson Shorb (W, 1-0) and Trent Markezich combined for the win for the River Dragons (8-10) holding Johnstown to just 4 hits.

Johnstown is now 13-6 and sitting atop the Northeast Division.

The Mill Rats will continue their 6-day road swing with a series against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp Friday and Saturday.
